Does what I need. July 14, 2010 L. Arntz (Akron, Ohio) I purchased this for interval training almost a year ago. Still works. No problems. Very configurable. I'm actually surprised there aren't more devices out there with the same features (at least that I could find at the time).
Only negative is it is a little quiet, but it vibrates to make up for it.
If you're looking for a simple interval timer this one is solid.
I hear they also have a free iPhone app now as well.
Loud, versatile, great training tool March 12, 2010 Marek Gorzelski My first concern was loudness. My hearing sucks (for reference, I hear well enough at movie theaters but often miss lines, and houseguests always say that I keep my TV really loud). So I wasn't sure I'd hear the beep while I exercise. I do...Its high pitched and the sound carries well enough. If I miss the beep, I certainly don't miss the vibration. It vibrates pretty hard.
The Gymboss Timer is easy to set up. You may just need to take five minutes to read the instructions. After you set up the timer once, you'll see how simple it is.
Why do they not have these in stores? I wanted to find it at a store to check how loud it is, which turns out to be a non-issue. But I've gone to the big chain department stores, independent sporting goods stores, running stores, triathlon pro shops...nobody carries anything remotely like this. Which is a shame, because this is such a simple yet awesome tool to have. Other timers will force you to do 2 to 3 minute rounds, or 3 to 5 minute rounds, and limit options for round/rest duration. This lets you set up for anything. I can do tabata workouts, boxing intervals, or even longer intervals. The stop watch feature is nice to have, too.
Good device March 8, 2010 J. Stewart A great little timer. Easy to use. Clear and loud alarm, or vibrate mode. Belt-clip has a strong spring. 3-step instructions written on clip. 800 support line printed on timer too. Customer service is very responsive. I would buy another GymBoss.
it does the job January 10, 2010 Beach Gal 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I use this for run/walking. I found it hard to program; there are some youtube videos that show how it's done, but I had to pause the video a few times. There is one point in the video where you have to carefully watch the person's fingers instead of listening to what he's saying; it's for the section where you are setting the number of cycles you want it to do. It looks as though he pushes the button on the left but he doesn't. You can choose either beeping or vibrating for the end of each cycle. I use headphones so I chose vibrate, but I can't feel it when it's clipped to me. So I carry it in my hand, and am wondering how I'll like that when the weather's hot.
Nice for Interval Training, Some Issues January 9, 2010 Albert (Maryland) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great little device to use in interval training for cardio or perhaps circuit training. It is very customizable, however it does take some time to figure out the settings (with a little practice it becomes easier). The alarm can be set very loud and long (1, 5, 10 seconds) and it can also be set to vibrate.
When I first got this I thought to myself how cheap this looked! But when you use it, you see the value it has. I still think paying over $20 is a lot for this. There is no button labeled on/off but rather the "NEXT" button turns the device on or off. You just need to hold it for a few seconds to turn it on. At first I thought my device was broken because it would not turn on but then I held the NEXT button and it came on. It has a belt clip with some instructions labeled on the back. Finally, there is also a stop watch which I have not used that much and I have had to reboot the device twice. Overall, I very pleased with it and with a little time have figured out how to use it the way I want.
